Chief Engr. Dr. Charles Emeka Kalu, an electrical engineer, and a business tycoon based in the United States, and a Labour Party (LP) contender for the Abia North Senatorial seat, has expressed his commitment to transforming the zone by creating millionaires within four years, should he win the 2027 election.

Kalu, who has extensive international business experience, plans to leverage his global network to bring wealth to the senatorial zone. He intends to channel funds from the National Assembly into local businesses, artisans, and large-scale farmers across all five local government areas (LGAs) of Abia North.

Speaking with journalists at his home in Bende town, located in Bende LGA, Kalu emphasized that his focus goes beyond just lawmaking. His vision includes creating wealth and opportunities, which he believes will have a more lasting impact on the people of Abia North.

“I’m not one of those who come around for the sake of elections,” Kalu stated. “I aim to empower my people. I want to create millionaires in all five LGAs of Abia North, as I have done in other places outside Nigeria.”

Kalu’s approach to empowerment will be distinct from traditional methods. Rather than providing low-end assistance like tricycles (Keke) or motorcycles (Okada), he plans to distribute the funds directly to business owners, artisans, and farmers. His vision includes introducing mechanized agriculture and fostering international business connections.

“Empowerment to me isn’t about giving out Keke or Okada. We will mobilize local entrepreneurs and invest in mechanized agriculture. The funds will be provided in cash, which they can invest directly into their businesses,” Kalu explained.

Kalu is committed to full transparency. He plans to open a WhatsApp platform to ensure that every penny allocated from the National Assembly is tracked and used properly. “Every LGA will submit a list, and we will ensure that all funds are accounted for,” he said. “We’ll monitor the progress and make sure that the money is being used to grow businesses and improve lives.”

Through these initiatives, Kalu believes that by the end of his first term, he will have successfully built a new generation of wealthy, empowered individuals throughout Abia North. He also intends to focus on developing human capital, providing academic and mental development opportunities for the people of the region.

“Since 1999, our people have suffered, and I believe it’s time for a change. This is why I’m stepping forward now to make a difference,” Kalu said passionately.

When asked about his political experience, Kalu assured that he is no newcomer to Nigerian politics. He highlighted the work of his foundation, the Emeka Charles Kalu (ECK) Foundation, which currently sponsors over 400 students. The foundation also supports local communities by covering school fees and medical bills.

“I’m a household name in Bende LGA due to the work my foundation has done. I’ve worked closely with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, even coining the term ‘Atikulated,’” Kalu remarked. “Now, I’m committed to supporting Dr. Alex Otti, our Governor, who is doing remarkable work in Abia. His leadership is what Abia needs right now, and I’ll support him as long as it takes.”

Kalu expressed confidence in his ability to challenge political heavyweights like the former Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu, businessman Chief David Ogba Onuoha, and current Senator Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, in both the party primaries and the general elections.

“Nobody gets power easily,” Kalu said. “It’s something you have to fight for with a clear strategy. I’m ready to make that fight and win.”
