President Prince Emeka Kalu (Magic Fingers) was elected in July 2025,in Gombe State during the Unions quadrennial Delegate conference.
He assumed office with a clear sense of purpose and an unwavering commitment to service.
From the very beginning, he demonstrated that leadership for him was not merely about occupying a position, but about making meaningful impact.
He came into the office well prepared, visionary, and driven by a deep passion to transform the Union. Rather than maintaining the status quo, President Kalu showed the courage and foresight required to change the narrative, bringing fresh ideas, renewed energy, and strategic direction to the affairs of the Union.
One of his most outstanding qualities is his service-oriented leadership, anchored on humility, dedication, and a genuine concern for the welfare and progress of members.
His readiness to embrace innovation, encouraged capacity building, reflects a leader who understands the demands of the times and the responsibility of guiding the Union towards a brighter future.
President Kalu has introduced a forward-looking philosophy he describes as “Destructive Change.” Though the phrase may appear radical at first glance, it represents a thoughtful and strategic approach to organizational renewal. It is a concept built on the understanding that meaningful progress often requires dismantling outdated structures, practices, and mindsets in order to create space for innovation, efficiency, and growth.
The Meaning of “Destructive Change” does not imply chaos or reckless disruption. Rather, it is a deliberate and strategic process of breaking down obsolete systems that hinder progress, while simultaneously infusing new ideas, skills, and structures capable of advancing the Union in a modern and dynamic environment.
Under this philosophy, President Kalu advocates that organizations must not cling to old ways simply because they are familiar. When structures become ineffective, they must be courageously reformed or replaced. In doing so, the Union positions itself to meet contemporary challenges in the media, entertainment, and cultural sectors.
President Kalu’s leadership philosophy recognizes that unions today operate in a rapidly changing professional landscape. New workplace realities require fresh thinking and proactive leadership. “Destructive Change” therefore emphasizes:
Reforming outdated operational practices within the Union.
Introducing modern capacity-building programs for members.
Encouraging innovation and new leadership perspectives.
Strengthening institutional structures to improve efficiency and accountability.
This philosophy promotes the idea that renewal must sometimes begin with dismantling ineffective habits and structures before building stronger ones.
President Kalu’s strategic approach therefore encourages members to embrace reform, innovation, and collaboration. It promotes the belief that true progress requires courage.
Through this vision, RATTAWU is not merely reacting to change—it is actively shaping its future, ensuring that the Union remains a vibrant, progressive, and influential voice for workers in Nigeria’s media, theatre, and arts industries.
