Chief Dr. Emeka Charles Kalu, Chairman of E.C.K Foundation Worldwide, yesterday chaired the formal inauguration of the Ndi-Eze Council of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Abia State chapter. The event was held at Ndi-Eze Conference Hall, JAAC Building, Ogurube Layout, Umuahia. The inauguration is a step toward advancing traditional governance and community development in Abia State. The council plays a pivotal role in advising the government on matters concerning traditional institutions and cultural heritage.
Dr. Kalu, a distinguished philanthropist and politician, called for a robust partnership between traditional institutions, government authorities, and community organizations, asserting that sustainable development is achievable only through unwavering cooperation and mutual respect among all stakeholders. He lauded the elders and monarchs for their steadfast dedication to preserving customs and traditions while embracing modern realities.
During the inauguration, Dr. Kalu emphasized the critical need for traditional leaders to collaborate effectively with Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, to accelerate progress and development across the state. Demonstrating his generosity and leadership, Dr. Kalu donated one million naira to the organization.
In his address, Dr. Chukwudi C. Okwuonu, President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Abia State Chapter, affirmed that Ohanaeze Ndigbo is a strong socio-cultural, non-partisan organization operating within a society influenced by political actors. As true representatives of the people, he stated, they are committed to speaking the truth. He praised the current government of Dr. Alex Chioma Otti for implementing impactful projects that resonate deeply with the people and urged continued support for his re-election bid.
In separate remarks, members of the newly inaugurated council expressed gratitude to Chief Dr. Kalu for his exemplary leadership and unwavering support, pledging to work diligently to foster peace, unity, and progress across all communities in the state.
The ceremony concluded with prayers, goodwill messages, and a renewed commitment by the Ndi-Eze to serve as defenders of culture and champions of the people’s welfare. This inauguration marks a significant milestone poised to enhance traditional leadership and contribute meaningfully to the overall development of the state.
