Nigerians have been urged by Chief Dr. Emeka Kalu to remain steadfast in their support of their country and put up greater effort to bring about peace, exhibit tolerance, and preserve democracy as the only contemporary system that can guarantee the advancement, civilization, and liberty of its population.

He emphasised that our ancestors made significant sacrifices on this day to guarantee a peaceful and united Nigeria, and that it is our responsibility to honour their legacy by protecting the unity they worked so hard to establish and improving it so that Nigeria is a better place for all of us. In order to do so, he added, we must accept one another and recognise that our variety is what makes us strong.

In remembrance of Alhaji M.K.O. Abiola and other democratic heroes whose sacrifices and tenacity paved the way for the democratic system currently in place, the Buhari administration reorganised June 12—the day Nigeria witnessed her first free and fair election—as the official day to celebrate democracy.

Chief Kalu, however, voiced concern that many things appear to be in disarray even after more than 20 years of the democracy experiment, including economic problems, perineal insecurity, abduction, and other social vices. According to him, politicians have divided Nigerians along ethnic and religious lines more than at any other point in the country’s history. As a result, nationalism and patriotism have been sacrificed on the altar of tribalism and ethnicity, and the result has been a retrogressing nation rather than a nation that is progressing.

The CEO of Stercoll Energy Services, USA and President of the ECK Foundation reiterate that Nigerians must unite as a single people to combat kidnapping, insecurity, and corruption because these social vices affect all Nigerians equally, regardless of status or religious preference.

He thinks that Nigeria can only become the African superpower via peace, tolerance, and liberty.
