In a bid to enhance vehicle security and combat crime, the Nigerian Police Force has re-launched the digitalized Central Motor Registry (e-CMR). This advanced digital system allows motorists to register and manage their vehicle information online, track stolen vehicles, and prevent fraudulent activities.
According to a post on the Police X handle, the e-CMR ensures every vehicle has a digital footprint, making it easier to track and manage vehicle ownership. The Police urged motorists to register and work together to make the roads safer.
The reintroduction of e-CMR comes after an earlier suspension due to controversy. The Police had initially planned to commence enforcement on July 29, 2024, but suspended it to allow for public education and enlightenment on the benefits and effectiveness of the system.
With the re-launch, the Police aim to improve vehicle security, fight crime, and simplify vehicle registration. Motorists are encouraged to take advantage of the digital system to secure their vehicles and contribute to a safer road environment.”
