Open Letter to President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria

CHIEF DR. EMEKA KALU
CHAIRMAN/CEO, ECK FOUNDATION
WORLD HEADQUARTERS, UNITED STATES
MARCH 23, 2025

His Excellency President Ahmed Bola Tinubu
President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
Aso Villa, Abuja

Your Excellency,

I am writing to express my profound concern regarding your recent decision to declare a state of emergency and the removal of an elected Governor from office. This action has raised serious questions about the health of our democracy, as it appears that democratic processes are being truncated and the will of the people, as expressed through the ballot box, is being undermined.

Furthermore, I am deeply troubled that the removal of the elected Governor, Deputy Governor, and members of the House of Assembly does not align with the visions outlined in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended. This constitution clearly stipulates the reasons for which an elected official can be replaced.

I urge you to reconsider your actions, uphold the principles of democracy, and respect the constitutional framework of our federated states.

Sincerely,

Chief Dr. Emeka Kalu
Chairman, ECK Foundation Worldwide
