July 7, 2025

I unequivocally condemn the recent demolition of a property belonging to the brother of former presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, in Lagos. This act of lawlessness and impunity is unacceptable and demands immediate attention from the authorities.

The demolition, which targeted a property owned by Next Foods Limited, a company associated with Mr. Obi’s brother, Ndibe Obi, raises serious concerns about the rule of law and property rights in Nigeria. The circumstances surrounding the demolition are disturbing, with allegations of a court order obtained against “unknown persons” being used to justify the action.

We demand that the authorities conduct a thorough investigation into this incident and bring the perpetrators to justice. The government must ensure that those responsible for this act of vandalism are held accountable and that compensation is provided for the damages suffered by the Obi family.

We stand in solidarity with the Obi family and expect swift action from the authorities to address this situation. The rule of law must be upheld, and property owners’ rights must be protected.

The Lagos State Government has denied involvement in the demolition and ordered a full investigation. We urge the government to ensure that this investigation is thorough, transparent, and impartial.

The demolition of Mr. Obi’s brother’s property is a stark reminder of the need for the government to prioritize the rule of law and protect the rights of citizens. We will be monitoring this situation closely and expect justice to be served.

Sincerely,
Chief Dr. Emeka Kalu
