As the September 21 governorship election in Edo State approaches, Chief Emeka Charles Kalu, a prominent PDP chieftain, has cautioned stakeholders, including his party members, about the looming threat of violence before, during, and after the polls.

In an interview with Sunday Independent, Dr. Kalu, National Coordinator of the Peoples Democratic Party Coalition (PDPCO), expressed concern over the escalating tensions, verbal clashes, and war of words between political parties, particularly the APC and PDP.

Kalu attributed the rising tensions to the overzealousness and desperation of both parties to win the election, citing Senator Adams Oshiomhole’s statements defaming PDP gubernatorial candidate Asue Ighodalo as an example. He demanded that Oshiomhole retract his statements and issue a public and private apology, or face a N20 billion lawsuit for character defamation.

Kalu urged the government, federal and state, to address the situation promptly to prevent the Edo governorship election from being marred by crisis and violence.
