The Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, has formally welcomed Emeka Charles Kalu (ECK) into the Labour Party, in a grand ceremony held at the Bende Local Government Area Council Headquarters Stadium.
Representing the Governor at the well-attended mega rally, the Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, FNSE, described the occasion as a historic convergence of purpose, leadership, and shared vision for a greater Abia. He noted that Chief Dr. Kalu’s decision to join the Labour Party reflects the growing confidence in the governance style and developmental strides of the present administration.
“Today is not just about a political declaration; it is about the celebration of leadership, vision, and commitment to the progress of our people,” the Deputy Governor stated on behalf of Governor Otti.
Engr. Emetu commended Chief Dr. Kalu for his longstanding contributions to human capital development, youth empowerment, and grassroots support, emphasizing that his entry into the party would further strengthen its structure and outreach.
“Chief Dr. Emeka Charles Kalu is a man whose record of service, philanthropy, and community impact speaks volumes. His decision to join the Labour Party is both strategic and commendable.”
Reiterating the Governor’s commitment to people-centered governance, the Deputy Governor highlighted ongoing efforts of the administration to restore trust in leadership, improve infrastructure, and create inclusive opportunities for Ndi Abia.
“The Labour Party remains a platform of hope, reform, and inclusive governance. The entry of credible leaders like Chief Dr. Kalu reinforces the growing confidence in our vision and direction.”
In his opening remarks, the Deputy Chief of Staff, Office of the Deputy Governor, Barr Chijioke Nwankwo, noted that the gathering was also an opportunity to thank God for the remarkable progress recorded in Abia State under Governor Otti. He stressed that the administration’s achievements continue to attract distinguished personalities into the Labour Party.
In his address, the State Chairman of the Labour Party, Emmanuel Nwaeze Oti, expressed delight at the development, describing Chief Dr. Kalu as “a new son born into the Labour Party.” He commended the strong working relationship between the Governor and his Deputy, noting that their synergy has continued to drive transformation across the state.
Responding, Chief Dr. Kalu lauded Governor Otti’s leadership, stating that the visible transformation in Abia informed his decision to join the Labour Party and contribute meaningfully to the state’s development trajectory.
The highpoint of the event was the formal induction ceremony, during which the Deputy Governor, on behalf of the Governor, presented the Labour Party flag to Chief Dr. Emeka Charles Kalu, symbolizing his official entry into the party.
The event, which attracted the Mayor of Bende LGA, Deacon Uwabunkeonye Bassey, and his deputy, Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Anya; government officials; members of the State Working Committee of the Labour Party; traditional leaders, stakeholders, party faithful, and supporters from across Abia North and beyond, marked a significant milestone in the continued expansion of the Labour Party in the state.
