On Monday, March 25, 2024, the inhabitants of Ogbu in Awka awoke to the tragic news of the sacking of a police station in Anambra town and the murders of two police officers on duty.

According to information available to ECKNews, the Ogbu Police Station was attacked by yet-to-be-identified gunmen around 2 am on this fateful day, and when the invaders arrived, the officers on duty engaged them in a prolonged gunfight to defend the station and possibly repel the determined attackers.

Unfortunately, the two officers were overpowered when they ran out of shots and had no help from colleagues or reinforcement. They were slain in the process because they lacked the necessary tools to accomplish their job of defending the people. They paid the ultimate price.

One of the victims, a dedicated and fearless Mobile Police officer named Nathaniel Kalu from Ohafia and his yet-to-be-identified colleague proved to be the type of cop who would succumb to fear if properly equipped by the authorities to protect the citizens. This is a cause for fear that our uniform men and women will continue to die needlessly because they lack the necessary tools to combat the circumstances we live in.

Every attempt to obtain comments or reactions from the DPO or PRO has failed because none of them have responded to messages addressed to them or answered their phones at the time of compiling this report.
