Chief Emeka Kalu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has advocated for fair and impartial leadership while choosing the next governor of Abia State.
In a statement released over the weekend, Kalu, the national coordinator of the People’s Democratic Party Coalition (PDPCO) and president of the ECK Foundation, bemoaned the ongoing mudslinging and distortions that are popular in Abia State. He claimed that certain politicians are attempting to undermine the long-lasting peace in the state by maintaining their hold on power at the expense of other people’s feelings.
According to Kalu, former Governor Theodore Orji had emphasised the necessity of a governorship seat returning to Abia North, bemoaning the fact that individuals he referred to as “haters of equity and justice” were attacking and rejecting a rotational arrangement intended to promote peace.
He said that Abia State would suffer greatly if the long-standing rotational system were terminated since it may sour the state’s current tranquilly as the country approaches the general election of 2023.
“This is why it calls for men to be guided in their words and actions and it is dangerous to truncate the components of equity in our human society,” he said.
“The rule of the people, by the people, and for the people is understood as democracy as eminently held, defined, and interpreted, while equality is the sustaining nutrients through which democracy thrives.
“The bane of our modern-day Nigeria is political power struggles, which never help any nation’s economy grow. Instead, they carelessly sow the seeds of unhealthy rivalry, ethnic animosity, and marginalisation.”
