The Federal Capital Territory High Court, located in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, has sentenced Peter Nwachukwu, the late gospel singer Osinachi Nwachukwu’s spouse, to death by hanging.

The ruling was issued on Monday by Justice Njideka Nwosu-Iheme, who had previously rejected Nwachukwu’s no-case argument.

He was convicted by the court of culpable murder in relation to his wife’s death on April 8, 2022.

The Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation filed a 23-count complaint against Nwachukwu, who was arraigned on June 3, 2022.

The charges included culpable homicide, spousal violence, cruelty to children and criminal intimidation.

During the trial, the prosecution called 17 witnesses, including two of the deceased’s children, and offered 25 exhibits.

In his defence testimony, the defendant produced four more witnesses and four exhibits.

Judge Nwosu-Iheme concluded in her ruling that the prosecution had established its case beyond a reasonable doubt.

Despite Reginald Nwali, Nwachukwu’s attorney, pleading for mercy, the court still condemned him to death by hanging on Count 1.

In addition, he was fined N700,000 and given additional prison terms ranging from six months to three years on a number of other charges.

Mrs. Aderonke Imana represented the prosecution.

At the age of 42, Osinachi died on April 8, 2022.

When she worked with Prospa Ochimana on the gospel hit song Ekwueme in 2017, she gained notoriety.

Following her passing, a number of coworkers accused her husband of abusing her at home, which ultimately resulted in her death.
