Chief Dr. Emeka Kalu, Chairman of the E.C.K Foundation and a prominent stakeholder of the Labour Party, has commended the successful conduct of the party’s 2026 Elective National Convention held in Umuahia, Abia State, describing it as a defining moment in the party’s democratic evolution.
The convention, which brought together delegates, stakeholders, and party leaders from across Nigeria, was marked by orderliness, transparency, and a shared commitment to strengthening the party’s internal structures ahead of future electoral engagements.
Reacting to the outcome of the convention, Chief Kalu congratulated the newly elected National Working Committee, particularly Nenadi Usman, who emerged as the National Chairman. He described her emergence as historic, noting that she stands as the first female national chairman of a major political party in Nigeria, a development he said reflects the Labour Party’s progressive and inclusive ideals.
He also extended his congratulations to Iheanacho Obioma, who was elected as National Secretary, alongside other members of the National Working Committee, expressing confidence in their collective ability to reposition the party for national relevance and electoral success.


Chief Kalu praised the peaceful conduct of the convention and the unanimous adoption of the voting process, stating that it demonstrated the party’s commitment to due process, internal democracy, and unity of purpose. According to him, the transparent nature of the exercise has further strengthened the credibility of the Labour Party in the eyes of Nigerians.
He urged the new leadership to remain focused, inclusive, and responsive to the aspirations of party members and the broader Nigerian populace. He emphasized the need for the leadership to build on the party’s growing national appeal while fostering cohesion among stakeholders at all levels.
Reaffirming his support, Chief Kalu pledged continued solidarity with the party and its leadership, expressing optimism that the Labour Party is on a steady path toward greater political impact.
With the successful conclusion of the convention, he noted, the party has once again demonstrated its readiness to move forward with renewed strength, unity, and a clear vision for Nigeria’s future.
