Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu

With a heart heavy with grief, I write to express my condolences to the family of the deceased, the government of Imo State, the Southeast region, and Nigerians at large on the passing of a rare gem, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu. As the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Iwuanyanwu died in active service, leaving behind a legacy of exemplary leadership in journalism and politics.

A renowned journalist and successful newspaper administrator, Chief Iwuanyanwu’s contributions to the newspaper industry remain indelible. He was a first republic politician who contested for the office of President of Nigeria under the National Republican Convention (NRC) and later became one of the pioneer founders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). His immense contributions to the PDP saw the party’s victory in various general elections at both national and state levels.

Chief Iwuanyanwu’s leadership and commitment to the PDP were unwavering, even during times of crisis. As the Board of Trustees Chairman, he worked tirelessly to transform the party, alongside other major stakeholders. His passing has created a significant vacuum in the nation’s political space.

As the leader of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo socio-ethnic and cultural group, Chief Iwuanyanwu worked tirelessly to unite the people of his region, promoting peaceful coexistence and harmony across ethnic lines. His leadership qualities are worth emulating, and posterity will continue to reflect on his legacy.

Rest in Peace, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.
